Service Program
Cаthоlіс funеrаl programs are gеаrеd аnd created ѕресіfісаllу fоr thе Catholic mаѕѕ funеrаl ѕеrvісе. This program оr bulletin is uѕеd tо place the mаѕѕ оrdеr оf ѕеrvісе, оbіtuаrу оf a dесеаѕеd fаmіlу mеmbеr, and ѕсrірturе rеаdіngѕ. Thе Catholic mass tеndѕ tо be formal іn nature аnd thеrеfоrе іtѕ іmроrtаnt tо have a рrоgrаm tо distribute tо attendees for guіdаnсе. Leading the Mass
The Priests will lead the Funeral Mass for any service and may also lead the funeral liturgy. When a priest is not available or present, deacons may choose to lead the funeral liturgy. When a deacon is not available any layperson who has an understanding of the liturgy and traditions may lead the service. One should note, that it's important that only a priest or a deacon can deliver the sermon.
Non Ordained member of the church may contribute to the service in the way of singing, readings, ushers and other roles to assist the family. Only music that is appropriate for the church surroundings should be played. Music found not within the guidelines may not be accepted. The family may also organise with the priest to have special or meaningful hymns and prayers read during the mass.
The Viewing or Wake
On the night before the deceased will be buried a Wake is held, also known as the Viewing. This takes place in the form of a Vigil which is a prayer service. During this time friends, family and colleagues gather at the hall to remember the deceased and pray. It's a time to reflect on the deceased life and impact on those around them, many close friends and family are their for comforting the immediate family. It's more of a social interaction between those who knew the deceased and the family. Even though they may not have met or do not know the family, you are encouraged to show your support by attending and expressing your thoughts and condolences. There is usually food and drinks being served at a Wake and guests will socially interact with each other.
The Interment & Rite of Committal
The Interment is the process by where the deceased is buried, whether it's at a gravesite, mausoleum, or tomb. The Rite of Committal will take place here, it's the last chance to say your farewells to the deceased before they are buried. The priest or deacon will say the last prayer over the deceased and bless them for the last time before their remains are committed to the Earth. Once the burial has taken place, the priest will say one last prayer and all will finish with the Lord's prayer.
